This highly detailed, historically accurate representation of the Greek Orthodox icon of Virgin Mary of Sorrows is engraved into a round medal in the metal of your choice. The Virgin Mary of Sorrows, also known as the Mater Dolorosa, refers to Mary's deep sorrow and grief during the Passion and Crucifixion of Jesus. Seven swords pierced her heart, each representing a sorrow. The prophecy foretold her anguish as she witnessed her son's suffering and sacrifice. The first sword was doubt, as Mary faced the angel's message. The second was the fear of judgment from her community. The third sword was grief for her son's rejection. The fourth sword was the torment of witnessing his crucifixion. The fifth sword was despair at his death. The sixth sword was the pain of holding his lifeless body. The seventh sword was the emptiness of his absence. Through it all, Mary endured, her faith unwavering.

What is the difference between 10K, 14K, and 18K gold?

The “K” stands for “karat”, a unit that measures how much pure gold is in the jewelry.

24K gold is pure gold, but it’s very soft and prone to bending or scratching.
That’s why jewelers blend pure gold with other metals to create 10K, 14K, and 18K gold. This makes the gold stronger and better suited for everyday wear.

The higher the karat, the higher the gold content—and, the higher the value.

10K gold: 41.7% pure gold
14K gold: 58.3% pure gold
18K gold: 75% pure gold

Gold’s color can vary slightly based on the karats:

10K and 14K gold have a balanced light yellow gold tone
18K gold has a stronger yellow hue due to its higher gold content

Does solid gold change color over time?

Solid gold will never change color or tarnish over time!

Will the chain and the pendant both be made in the metal I choose?

Yes! The chain and the pendant will both be made in whichever metal you choose, unless you manually select a different karat for one of them. For example, if you choose 10K Yellow Gold as your metal, both the chain and the pendant will be in solid 10K Yellow Gold by default.

Does the thickness affect the pendant’s appearance?

From the front, both the Classic (0.7mm) and Heavy (1.1mm) look the same. The Heavy (1.1mm) option is thicker and heavier, giving it a more substantial, pronounced look when viewed from the side or when you hold it in your hand.

For gold, why is there a noticeable price difference between the two thickness options?

The 1.1mm (Heavy) thickness makes the pendant heavier, which means it contains more solid gold, giving the pendant more value compared to the thinner 0.7mm (Classic) option.
